Fat Transfer in Reading, PA

What Is a Fat Transfer?

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wished you could remove excess fat tissue from places like your abdomen or thighs and transfer it to other areas like your face, breasts, or buttocks, you’re not alone. Now, you can make your wish a reality with fat transfer. At Spring Ridge Plastic Surgery, Dr. Schlechter regularly performs this procedure for patients of all ages who desire a more attractive physique and a more youthful appearance.

The Benefits of Fat Transfer

  • No general anesthesia
  • Less patient discomfort
  • Immediate results

Areas Treated With Fat Transfer

Face

Fat transfer can add volume to produce a smoother and more youthful facial appearance. This procedure can effectively improve the following:

  • • Nasolabial folds
  • • Sunken cheeks
  • • Hollow temples
  • • Ridges under the eyes
  • • Nasal deformities or asymmetry
  • • Thin lips

AquaShape® and its Benefits for Fat Transfer

To provide the best results, Dr. Schlechter performs the fat transfer procedure using the innovative AquaShape® system. This advanced liposuction technique uses body-jet liposuction to remove the bumps and bulges of excess body fat. The water-jet device gently detaches the fat cells from the rest of the tissues to allow for a higher quality and quantity of fat cells to be removed. This gentle, low-discomfort liposuction method increases the chances that the fat cells will survive after being injected into the desired area(s).

Am I a Candidate for Fat Transfer?

Patients who are candidates for fat transfer must have excess fat in other areas of the body that may be removed. Candidates for Fat Transfer often have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Hollow appearance under the eyes
  • Loss of fullness in the cheeks
  • Creases around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • Thin lips
  • Loss of volume in or asymmetry of the breasts
  • Loss of volume in or shape of the buttocks
  • Prominent appearance of veins in the hands

FAQ

Who is an ideal candidate for fat transfer?

Besides wanting to improve one or more of the signs of aging listed above, ideal candidates for fat transfer are in good physical and emotional health. Individuals should be close to their ideal body weight but have areas of fat that can be used for transfer. Potential patients should refrain from smoking for at least four weeks before and six weeks after undergoing the procedure. Even though fat transfer is a very effective procedure, patients should have realistic expectations about the results that can be achieved.

What type of anesthesia is used for fat transfer?

AquaShape® does not require the use of general anesthesia. Instead, your surgeon will administer local anesthesia with IV sedation. For patients only undergoing facial fat transfer, the surgeon typically harvests the fat with a syringe and uses only local anesthesia.

What is the recovery like after fat transfer?

After the procedure is complete, bandages will be placed on the incisions. A compression garment may be applied to the area treated with liposuction to reduce swelling and bruising. Medication will be prescribed, if needed, to alleviate any discomfort or swelling that may exist during the first few days. Most patients can return to work within a few days, but patients should avoid performing any strenuous activity or exercise for the first few weeks.

When will I see my final results?

The exact length of time until your final results become apparent will depend on the amount of fat removed, which areas are treated, and how quickly your body heals. The more slender contours achieved with AquaShape® are usually apparent within six weeks. The final results of the areas enhanced with the fat injections are generally visible after a few months.

Are the results of fat transfer permanent?

Unlike injectable fillers that offer only temporary results, results from fat transfer are permanent. The fat cells removed with AquaShape® are permanently removed from the body and will not grow back. However, since the body will naturally absorb some of the injected fat cells, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. After the body absorbs what it will of the injected fat cells, the enhanced volume will remain permanent. A healthy diet and exercise will help maintain the best results.

How much larger can fat transfer make my breasts?

On average, breast augmentation with fat transfer can increase the size of the breasts about one cup size. Dr. Schlechter injects up to 150 to 200cc in each breast and ensures there is all natural tissue surrounding it. Since the body will naturally absorb some of the fat cells, Dr. Schlechter usually over treats the breasts. Patients often require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

How much does fat transfer cost?

The cost of your fat transfer will depend on your specific anatomy and surgery. Please see our Plastic Surgery Procedure Pricing Guide for more information.
