Neck Lift in Reading, PA

What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the neck. As we age, it is common to lose tone and definition in the neck area. Your surgeon can employ several different surgical approaches to smooth and tighten the tissues and refine the contours of your neck.

The Benefits of a Neck Lift

  • Tightens the skin and muscles to correct sagging
  • Removes excess fat and skin to tone the neck
  • Improves the contour and definition of the neckline
  • Eliminates a turkey wattle
  • Rejuvenates the neck for a more youthful appearance

Achieved With Neck Lift Surgery

Tightened, Toned Neck

The natural aging process leads to skin laxity in the neck. The skin and muscles of the neck commonly become saggy and loose, resulting in the appearance of a so-called “turkey wattle.” Neck lift surgery can eliminate a turkey wattle, remove excess skin, and tighten the tissues so that the neck appears smooth, toned, and defined.

Neck Lift for Men

Men can develop wrinkles and sagging skin in the neck as well as the face. Men tend to have thicker skin and more fatty tissue in the neck area, both of which can age the appearance. Dr. Schlechter makes incisions under the chin and/or behind the ears and removes excess skin, tightens the neck muscles, and repositions the tissues. For qualifying candidates, Dr. Schlechter may use the PrecisionTx™ minimally invasive neck lift to rejuvenate the appearance of the neck. A neck lift for men can:

  • Improve neck contour and definition
  • Eliminate stubborn neck fat, including a double chin
  • Tighten the skin and muscle tissues
  • Create a more youthful neck contour

Traditional Neck Lift Surgery

Traditional neck lift surgery involves tightening or repositioning the neck muscles and removing excess fat and skin through surgical excision. The surgical incisions are usually made under the chin or behind the ears. If necessary, neck lift surgery can incorporate liposuction to rejuvenate the neck.

Liposuction

Liposuction of the neck can correct a double chin or hanging fat in the neck to make it slimmer and more defined. Using one or more small incisions, a thin, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted into the pockets of neck fat. Excess fat is then vacuumed out through the cannula to trim down the neck.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

Muscle banding in the neck is a common sign of aging and can be minimized using BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the neck muscles to relax them so that they no longer give the appearance of a turkey wattle.

PrecisionTx Laser Neck Lift

Dr. Schlechter’s PrecisionTx™ minimally invasive neck lift uses laser liposuction to destroy excess fat and tighten loose skin. This technique can produce results similar to a traditional neck lift for the appropriate candidate. PrecisionTx™ leaves little to no scarring and stimulates collagen production so that results continue to improve over time.

FAQ

Am I a candidate for a neck lift?

Patients must be in good physical health to be candidates for a neck lift. If you have any bleeding problems or an illness or disorder that slows the healing process, you may not be a good candidate for a neck lift. It is also important to have realistic expectations and a healthy mental well-being. Some patients who would not qualify for traditional neck lift surgery may still be able to undergo neck rejuvenation with the PrecisionTx™ technique, liposuction, or BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. During your consultation, Dr. Schlechter will discuss your desires and medical history with you to determine the best treatment for your needs.

Can I combine my neck lift with any other procedures?

Dr. Schlechter often combines neck lift surgery with facelift surgery and other rejuvenation procedures. If you are interested in receiving multiple procedures at once, Dr. Schlechter can help you decide which procedures will help you achieve your desires.

Will I have scars after my neck lift?

Patients who undergo traditional neck lift surgery will have scars after the procedure. Nonetheless, these scars are hidden under the chin or behind the ears and are rarely perceptible over time. There is virtually no scarring after the PrecisionTx™ minimally invasive neck lift since only one to three tiny incisions are made in the earlobe crease and under the chin.

Can a neck lift get rid of a double chin?

A neck lift removes excess fat and skin in the neck area. In many cases, it can correct a double chin by removing fatty deposits and improving skin tightness in the lower face and jawline area.

Which neck lift technique will I need?

The exact technique for performing a neck lift varies based on the specific problems that are being corrected. Dr. Schlechter will help you select the best neck lift technique for you. Whichever technique you receive, the end result will be a neck that looks more toned and gives you a more youthful appearance.

Where is the procedure performed?

Neck lifts can be performed in a hospital or clinic setting, and they are almost always outpatient procedures. Dr. Schlechter typically performs the procedure in his accredited in-office surgical suite.

What kind of anesthesia is used for neck lift surgery?

A neck lift is typically performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation.

What is recovery like after a neck lift?

Immediately after a traditional neck lift, you will be fitted with a compression bandage to reduce swelling and aid the healing process. This bandage is removed the following day, and a lighter bandage is applied. You will be given instructions on how to care for your stitches and incision. Patients commonly experience some bruising and swelling. You may also experience unusual sensations like numbness, tingling, or burning in the neck area for the first few weeks. Major complications are rare for patients who carefully follow the doctor’s instructions. Expect to be off work for one to two weeks, and you may have to avoid strenuous physical activities for a month or longer.

What is recovery like after the PrecisionTx laser neck lift?

You can return home a couple hours after a PrecisionTx™ neck lift. Any pain and bruising are usually minimal and subside within a couple days. You may need to wear the compression garment around your neck for up to two weeks to ensure the best results.

What results can I expect after neck lift surgery?

Most patients achieve dramatic results from neck lift surgery. Your neck will look more youthful, defined, thin, and toned. Results from liposuction and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are quickly noticeable, as are many of the results from traditional neck lift surgery. The results from all techniques will become more noticeable as swelling subsides. The results from a PrecisionTx™ neck lift take the longest to develop; some results will be immediately noticeable but the remainder will continue to develop for up to six months after the procedure.

What is the cost of necklift surgery?

The cost of your necklift will depend on your specific anatomy and surgery. Please see our Plastic Surgery Procedure Pricing Guide for more information.
