Liposuction is a procedure that removes stubborn pockets of fat to achieve a more slender body with improved contours and proportions. This procedure uses one or more small incisions to “vacuum” out unwanted fat through a small hollow tube called a cannula.
At Spring Ridge Plastic Surgery, we offer several methods of liposuction. All these methods make fat removal easier and the recovery process faster than with previous liposuction techniques. During your consultation, Dr. Schlechter will help determine the best liposuction method to meet your needs.
Smartlipo™ is laser-assisted liposuction. This liposuction method uses a small fiber optic that transmits laser energy to break up fat and fat cells, which allows for more efficient fat removal in less time compared to traditional liposuction.
Body-Jet® and AquaShape® are water-assisted liposuction techniques. These liposuction methods use water similar to a Waterpik® to dissect fat cells from the surrounding tissue to facilitate the removal of the fat.
UAL uses sound waves to liquefy the fat cells so that they can be removed more efficiently.
PAL moves the liposuction cannula using tiny, rapid vibrations to break up the fat cells, which allows for faster and more efficient fat removal.
Men who have accumulated fat deposits left by weight gain can undergo liposuction with Dr. Schlechter. A highly popular procedure, liposuction can permanently remove excess fat from trouble areas to create a leaner, fitter, and more masculine physique. Dr. Schlechter will make a series of tiny incisions in the target areas and gently but permanently extract the fat via a suctioning device and laser energy. Scarring is minimal to non-existent and fades significantly over time. Men most often receive liposuction to eliminate unwanted fat from areas such as the following:
From the ankles and calves to the knees and thighs, liposuction can be used to slim and create definition in almost any area of the lower body. Whether they are model long or on the shorter side, liposuction can help you achieve the legs you desire.
At our practice, intravenous sedation is used for the procedure, and it is administered by our trusted and experienced anesthetist of 19 years. The procedure is sometimes performed using local anesthesia and oral sedation.
The procedure can last anywhere from 45 minutes up to a few hours depending on the area(s) being treated.
Liposuction only requires small, inconspicuous incisions, and they will be placed in a fold or natural crease in the skin when possible. Any resulting scars are often so small and hidden that patients do not notice them, and they will continue to fade over time.
Most patients can return to work within a few days after liposuction, and physical activity is usually only limited for approximately one week.
Yes. In fact, many patients choose to combine liposuction with other body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck or body lift, to eliminate excess skin and fat for more comprehensive results. In addition, the excess fat removed during liposuction can be used for fat transfer to provide a variety of figure enhancements or facial rejuvenation.
Liposuction is designed to remove unwanted areas of fat. If you want to transfer your fat from one area of the body to another, Body-Jet® and AquaShape® water-assisted liposuction is best for all fat transfer procedures. If you want to lose the fat and want to tighten your skin, The Smartlipo® Triplex is beneficial because it not only treats the fat, but it also may help tighten the skin. During your consultation, the doctors will listen to what you would like in terms of results, and they will explain which liposuction technique will best meet your goals.
During a single liposuction surgery, multiple areas, such as the inner and outer thighs, the arms and back, or the flanks and abdomen can be addressed at once. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recommends limiting fat removal to five liters.
Liposuction is not a substitution for dramatic weight loss. Good liposuction candidates have stubborn areas of fat that they cannot lose no matter how much they exercise. Those who are considered obese or morbidly obese according to the Body Mass Index are not good candidates for liposuction. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is better to lose the necessary weight and then treat problematic areas.
Typically, you will not gain weight in the treated areas; however, you will gain some weight in those areas with a massive weight gain. Liposuction permanently removes fat cells in the treated areas, which decreases the fat-storing capacity in those areas. However, there are still some fat cells present that will store fat with excess weight gain.
The cost of your liposuction treatment will depend on your specific anatomy and procedure. Please see our Plastic Surgery Procedure Pricing Guide for more information.
