When you look in the mirror, do you see lines and wrinkles that make you look and feel older than you really are? Sometimes wrinkles known as dynamic wrinkles form as the result of repeated muscle movements. These wrinkles occur most frequently in the upper part of the face in the area between the eyes, forehead and crows feet. If you suffer from these types of wrinkles, you are not alone, and you are not stuck with them forever. With BOTOX® Cosmetic, it is possible to effectively remove the wrinkles in minutes, and the results last several months.
What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a cosmetic injection that removes wrinkles and smooths the surface of the skin. Unlike other injectable fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic actually relaxes the muscles that cause the wrinkles rather than replacing volume in the deeper layers of the skin. BOTOX® Cosmetic works to temporarily weaken the facial muscles in treated areas, eliminating the wrinkles caused by repeated motions like frowning or furrowing the brow.

How is BOTOX® Cosmetic Performed?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are performed in your surgeon’s office. The area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed, then your surgeon will use a fine needle to inject the solution directly into the muscles of your face. The number of injections varies depending on the size of the area being treated.
Am I a Candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Surgeons do not recommend BOTOX® Cosmetic for women who are pregnant or breast-feeding as none of the studies involved pregnant or lactating women. Good candidates should have realistic expectations regarding the procedure. BOTOX® Cosmetic greatly reduces the appearance of and can even eliminate wrinkles, but fine lines may still be present. Also, the treatment is not permanent, and it does not stop the aging process.
Recovery from BOTOX® Cosmetic
When performed by a highly qualified doctor, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are safe, and complications are rare. You could experience swelling and bruising at the injection site. Rarely people may experience flu-like symptoms or headache. Take care not to rub your face following your injections as doing so could cause the BOTOX® Cosmetic to spread to other areas, potentially causing an unfavorable result. The injections start working in three to five days and the full effect of the BOTOX® Cosmetic may take as long as two weeks. The results typically last three and possibly as long as four months. Injections are performed in your doctor’s office.
